Ingredients
2 x 750ml bottles affordable red wine
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
10 cloves
4 star anise
zest of one lemon
1 orange, sliced
splash of brandy, to taste

INGREDIENTS

    • 2 x 750ml bottles affordable red wine
    • 1 cup orange juice
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar
    • 4 cinnamon sticks
    • 10 cloves
    • 4 star anise
    • zest of one lemon
    • 1 orange, sliced
    • splash of brandy, to taste

 

METHOD

    1. Combine all ingredients, with the exception of the brandy, in a large pot over a medium heat.
    2. Stir frequently as the mixture warms - allow 10 to 15 minutes.
    3. When the wine begins to steam, turn off the heat, ensuring the mixture does not boil.
    4. Add a splash of brandy and a touch more sugar, to taste.
    5. Strain, allow to cool, and pop into the fridge.
    6. Gently warm in a pot on the hob over 5-7 minutes before each serving.
