LAURENT MIQUEL

Laurent Miquel is a progressive, family-run wine estate in the Languedoc region, dedicated to sustainable and elegant winemaking. Eighth-generation winemaker Laurent Miquel returned to Château Cazal Viel, in St-Chinian, in 1996 to join his pioneering father, Henri. With his Irish wife Neasa (who's from Dublin), they manage over 240 hectares of vineyards across Cazal Viel and Château Auzines in Corbières, where biodiversity and sustainability are prioritised. The estates include large areas of garrigue (wild shrubs and herbs) and a rainwater lake, enhancing ecological balance. Laurent has built a reputation for crafting fresh, elegant white wines, specialising in varietals like Viognier (planted in 1992) and Albarino, which Laurent re-introduced to France in 2009. His innovative methods of night-time harvesting, north-south planting and a focus on high-altitude sites retain freshness in the grapes in this hot region. The Miquel family embodies Languedoc’s independent spirit, continually improving on quality through thoughtful and environmentally conscious innovation.
