ABOUT US
Jaffelin is known — fondly — as “the smallest of Burgundy's great wine houses.” since the 1950s, its wines travelling the world — proof that great things really do come in small packages.
Step inside Maison Jaffelin's cellars in Beaune — the beating heart of Burgundy — and you're stepping into a story that began in 1816. The cellars themselves go back even further: carved beneath a church built eight centuries ago, they're some of the oldest wine cellars in Beaune, and they're still quietly ageing wine today.
Since the early 2010s, winemaker Marinette Garnier has kept that story alive, blending old-world tradition with a modern touch. Rather than growing every grape itself, Jaffelin travels across Burgundy, hand-picking the finest wines from small growers and finishing them under one roof — a style the French call a négociant-éleveur. It means every bottle carries a taste of somewhere different, from Burgundy's biggest names to its best-kept secrets.
Jaffelin presses using a traditional vertical press, (like a manual juice press) and the wine is moved into oak barrels by gravity rather than pumped — both handling the fruit as gently as possible.
It is noted that Jaffelin is the only wine house based right in Beaune's historic town centre; every other major producer has relocated out to the vineyards over the years.

A JOURNEY THROUGH BURGUNDY
Where Does Every Jaffelin Wine Come From?
Maison Jaffelin calls Beaune home — the historic capital of Burgundy wine country — right in the middle of vineyards stretching from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the south.
By hand-picking and finishing wine from growers all along this stretch, Jaffelin captures a little bit of everywhere — so each bottle in the range has its own personality, shaped by exactly where its grapes were grown.
Why Location Makes All The Difference?
Burgundy's vineyards grow on ancient limestone soil, laid down millions of years ago when this land was still under the sea — soil that gives the wines their bright acidity, chalky minerality and elegant freshness.
That's part of why Chardonnay and Pinot Noir taste so good here. Travel south, though, and the climate warms up — so the wines get riper and rounder the further you go.
Chablis - The Cool North
Many people are surprised to learn that Chablis is actually a place, not a grape. Nestled in the cooler north of Burgundy, close enough to Champagne to share its crisp climate, Chablis produces some of the region's most refreshing white wines — all made from Chardonnay.
Its soil holds a fascinating secret: ancient fossilised oysters, no bigger than a fingernail, still surface in the vineyards today. It's this rare combination of cool climate and fossil-rich soil that gives Chablis its signature style — crisp, zesty and mineral, unlike any other Chardonnay in Burgundy
The Mâconnais & Beaujolais — The Warmer South
Head south of Beaune and the sun does more of the work. In the Mâconnais, Chardonnay ripens fuller and rounder. Go further still into Beaujolais, and the soil turns to granite — giving the grapes real freshness and a lifted, floral perfume.
It's perfect for Gamay, the grape behind light, juicy reds like Fleurie.
