Formal Icing:
Traditional Royal iced cakes should be allowed to dry in a warm room overnight, then covered loosely in clingfilm to prevent over hardening.
Soft & Creamy Icing:
Cup cakes and children's cakes etc: allow the icing to set 2-3 hours then place in an airtight container to retain the soft creamy texture.
Preparation and Usage
Mixing Instruction
Carefully measure 60ml. (approx 3 1/2 tablespoons) warm water into a clean mixing bowl, then add one pack of C Pac Instant Royal Icing.
Mix slowly at first, then beat at full speed for 5-6 min - until the icing forms stiff peaks. Beat in a further teaspoon of water if a softer texture is required.
If desired-add a 1/4 teaspoon of Glycerine to prevent the icing over-hardening.
To Decorate Cakes
Christmas and Rich Fruit Cakes
Place the cake on a cake board- or a large flat plate.
Smooth the icing over the top and sides of the cake using a large pallet knife.
For a simple Snow Effect form peaks with the tip of a pallet knife (any round tipped knife will do) Add further cake decorations now before the icing sets.
Pipework: Allow the first layer set for at least one hour. Use disposable piping bags and a large star nozzle to make "Shells" to finish the cake top / side / base corners.. then add further designs/colours as desired.
For Soft & Creamy Icing:
Cup Cakes & Layer Sponge Cakes / Children's Birthday Cakes
The icing should be quite soft for this application- add water (Teaspoon at a time) and beat/whisk at high speed to a soft creamy texture.
Use a large pallet knife on layer cakes and a large piping nozzle on Cup Cakes.
