History - Whether the soils are slate, loess or limestone, our Winehouse Terroir wines reflect the characteristics of the soil type in the aromatic profile found in the glass. The Weinhaus range of wines are a clear commitment to individuality and origin, handcrafted at the highest level. Our "soil ambassadors" literally let you experience the taste of millions of years of history in the glass.
Producer - Reh Kendermann GmbH
Regional Information - This wine comes from the Pfalz, one of Germany's key wine-producing regions, situated in the southwest, across the border from Alsace. The weather here is generally dry and sunny as the Pfalz wine region lies in the rain shadow of the mountains. The vineyards for this rosé are located in the north of the Pfalz and are in a valley basin, making it a cool area because of the fog and thermal currents. This cool climate, together with the limestone soils, makes for lean, long-lived wines.
Vinification Details - This wine is produced by the classic rosé method. The grapes are picked in the early hours of the morning when temperatures are cool. The grapes are pressed very gently for about three hours with skin contact to give a delicate tinge of pink. Winemaking is reductive at around 16 degrees C for c. 3 weeks with specially selected yeasts to enhance the fresh and fruity flavours. The wine then spends several months on the fine lees to gain weight and complexity before being bottled.
