Citrus Mulled Wine

2 x 750ml bottles affordable red wine
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
10 cloves
4 star anise
zest of one lemon
1 orange, sliced
splash of brandy, to taste

- 2 x 750ml bottles affordable red wine
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 10 cloves
- 4 star anise
- zest of one lemon
- 1 orange, sliced
- splash of brandy, to taste
METHOD
- Combine all ingredients, with the exception of the brandy, in a large pot over a medium heat.
- Stir frequently as the mixture warms - allow 10 to 15 minutes.
- When the wine begins to steam, turn off the heat, ensuring the mixture does not boil.
- Add a splash of brandy and a touch more sugar, to taste.
- Strain, allow to cool, and pop into the fridge.
- Gently warm in a pot on the hob over 5-7 minutes before each serving.
